When the worst things in our life happen to us, life often feels paused.
We may feel out of our bodies.
Or like we are walking in a fog.
Our brain can’t quite process all that’s happened, so we go into a state of shock.
But with time, reality begins to set in.
We are distraught.
The cloud of heaviness around us feels like it will never, ever lift.
How can we keep living?
How are we even still breathing?
How is our heart even working under all this pain?
Yet, the next day comes, whether we were ready for it or not.
Then the next, and the next.
We still hurt, but life keeps moving.
And at some point, so do we.
Sometimes our only choice is to keep going even when we are mourning or completely numb.
And I think that’s one of the most amazing things I’ve seen about humans.
We talk about how fragile we are, but in the midst of the worst pain we experience in life...
We keep going.
It may be slowly. Heck it may be crawling.
But it’s powerful to witness.
Someone who has lost the most important thing to them, or someone who has been so hurt, they keep on living.
Why?
Because a broken heart still beats.
A grief-filled soul still breathes.
The sun still comes up the in the morning, only to set the next night.
Life continues on.
And with time and God people do begin to heal.
The pain may still remain, but the cloud around them lessens.
Whether it’s God’s strength or their own (or both), I’m amazed that people keep going.
If you are currently in the process of this, please recognize how strong you are.
My goodness, it would be so much easier to give up.
To throw in the towel and call it quits.
But you’re still here.
Even if it’s not pretty.
You’re here and you’re strong.
Keep going, friend.
This isn’t the end.
