“Come Lord Jesus, be our guest..”
I used to prayer that prayer as a child each night before bed.
I was thinking about it today, and realized how much I don’t want Jesus to be our guest.
This world feels like an absolute crumbling disaster.
Maybe it’s always been that way and I just haven’t had my eyes open to it.
Or maybe things are extra bad right now.
The heartache feels crushing and the fear feels thicker than the air we breathe. It’s hard not to be swallowed up by it.
Finger pointing by literally everyone, on every topic.
Everything becomes divisive.
Unity seems to be getting further away from us.
We clearly need something bigger than us, because we humans aren’t cutting it.
The thing is, most of this fragile world doesn’t even know it’s screaming for its need for a Savior.
God, we need you so badly.
Us humans, we will never get this thing right on our own.
Every ounce of sorrow, hatred and despair points to you.
It points to how desperate we are for you.
Jesus, I don’t want you to be our guest.
Because guests come to visit, and then leave.
We need you to be our foundation.
We need you in every detail of everything, and we need you every second.
We need your Spirit to wake us up and truly transform our hearts.
All of creation is groaning for you, Jesus, and most people don’t even know it.
Please Lord, help us see and know you.
Because we are crying out to you “come, don’t be our guest, be our companion and guide for life.”
Be our Savior.
Help us see that that the beginning of healing will start with you.
Your unconditional love, your understanding, your compassion and empathy, and your grace and forgiveness.
You are our only hope.
