There are times when we can’t speak, let alone find our soul’s song.
We have nothing.
No words, no melody.
Just ache. Just sorrow. Just grief. And it’s almost like it swallows our ability to speak.
So we are silent.
But God.. He doesn’t mind silence.
Sometimes it’s when we are quiet and still that He can do His most healing work.
And He will, if we let Him.
The thing is, once He starts working in us, He’ll give us new words.
New insight, new revelation will start to come.
We will start to see Him and ourselves differently.
You know what else He will do?
He will sing a song over us.
A song of hope and victory.
His song sinks deeply into our skin down into our souls.
It sparks a new flame inside us.
That’s when a new song will emerge from our mouth.
A hymn of praise.
Because we can’t NOT sing when we experience the radical love of God.
It’s just the response that happens inside us.
When God sings over us, He sings into us.
And our Spirit responds by singing back to Him.
So if you feel like you don’t have any words, be silent and still.
Listen for His song.
He is singing over you.
And it might take some time, but you’ll find a new song coming out of your mouth, too.
“He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God.” Psalm 40:3
